Shipping Policy
At The PlantGuy, we do our best to ship your order safely, quickly, and at a reasonable cost. We know how exciting it is to receive new plants, and we take a lot of care in how we pack and send them.
Please take a moment to read through the information below before placing your order.
Live Arrival Guarantee
Our live arrival guarantee applies only to orders shipped using:
- Canada Post Xpresspost
- Purolator Express
These are the shipping methods we trust most for live plants.
If you choose a slower or lower-cost shipping option, your order is being shipped at your own risk.
Our Recommended Shipping Option
If you’re selecting Canada Post Xpresspost, we highly recommend using FlexDelivery / Flex Address so your package is delivered directly to your nearest post office for pickup.
This can make a big difference by helping prevent your plants from:
- sitting outside
- being exposed to extreme heat or cold
- spending unnecessary extra time in transit
Please Don’t Let Plants Sit Outside
Live plants should be brought inside as soon as possible after delivery.
It is the customer’s responsibility to:
- be available to receive the order, or
- make arrangements for quick pickup
If you won’t be home, we strongly recommend using FlexDelivery or arranging pickup directly with the courier.
Winter Shipping
We ship plants year-round, but winter shipping always carries some extra risk.
If temperatures are too cold for safe shipping, we may choose to delay or hold your order until conditions improve. This is done to give your plants the best chance of arriving in good shape.
If your plants arrive damaged during winter:
- please contact us within 24 hours of delivery
- include clear photos of the plants
If approved, damaged plants may qualify for:
- a refund of the plants only, or
- a replacement / reshipment when weather allows
Shipping charges are non-refundable.
How We Pack Plants
We pack our plants carefully and as compactly as possible to help keep shipping affordable and reduce stress during transit.
Plants are typically:
- packed securely
- labeled by species
- organized to minimize movement during shipping
Our goal is to get your plants to you safely without adding unnecessary shipping cost.
Heat Packs / Ice Packs
We do not use heat packs or ice packs.
In our experience, they don’t always improve outcomes and can sometimes create more problems than they solve. They also require larger packaging, which increases shipping costs significantly.
Instead, we focus on:
- compact packaging
- efficient shipping methods
- sending orders under the best possible conditions
Shipping Rates
Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on:
- your location
- order size
- package weight
- shipping method selected
We do our best to keep packaging efficient so shipping costs stay as reasonable as possible.
Local Pickup
We also offer local pickup for customers in Winnipeg and the surrounding area, when available.
If local pickup applies to your order, it will show as an option at checkout.
If There’s an Issue With Your Order
If something doesn’t look right when your order arrives, please reach out within 24 hours of delivery and include photos so we can review the situation.
We’re a small business, and while we can’t control the weather or the courier, we always try to be fair when there’s a genuine issue.
A Final Note
Shipping live plants always comes with some risk, especially during extreme weather.
By placing an order, you understand that:
- transit conditions are outside of our control
- shipping delays can happen
- choosing a non-guaranteed shipping method means accepting additional risk
That said, we care a lot about what we send out, and we’ll always do our best to make sure your order is packed properly and arrives in good condition.
